Main benefits
  • Pattern identification: Traditionally used for the TCM pattern of external Wind invading the head, where pathogenic Wind obstructs the channels of the head and face, leading to pain or distention in different regions of the head.

  • Channel focus: Formulated to open and regulate the Yang channels that course through the head, primarily the Taiyang, Shaoyang, and Yangming pathways, so that clear Yang can rise and turbid Qi can descend smoothly.

  • Chief herb: Uses Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum chuanxiong) as the sovereign ingredient to invigorate Blood, move Qi in the upper body, and guide the other herbs specifically to the head and face.

  • Wind‑dispelling herbs: Combines Qiang Huo, Fang Feng, Bai Zhi, and Xi Xin to dispel external Wind from different regions of the head (occiput, vertex, frontal, and lateral aspects) according to classical channel theory.

  • Surface regulation: Includes light, acrid herbs such as Jing Jie and Bo He to gently release the exterior and vent Wind from the superficial layers without strongly inducing sweating, in line with harmonizing strategies often used in TCM formula design.

  • Pain‑relief principle (TCM sense): By promoting the free flow of Qi and Blood in the head channels and expelling Wind, the formula addresses the TCM dictum that “where there is obstruction, there is pain,” focusing on unblocking rather than directly “treating disease.”

  • Green tea as assistant: Traditionally taken with green tea (Cha), which lightly clears the head orifices, helps guide the formula upward, and moderates the richness of the warm, acrid herbs.

  • Classical heritage: First recorded in the Ming‑dynasty text Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang and long regarded as a representative formula for Wind‑type headaches in the TCM sense, regardless of whether the pain is frontal, temporal, occipital, or generalized.

Weinsch Head Clarity Extra Strong is a traditional Chinese herbal preparation formulated according to the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is inspired by the classical formula Chuan Xiong Cha Tiao San, first recorded in Song‑dynasty collections such as the Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang. In traditional Chinese herbal literature, this combination of botanicals was described as a method to “dispel Wind,” “move Qi and Blood,” and “clear the head” within the TCM theoretical framework. These descriptions belong to the traditional concepts of TCM and do not refer to modern anatomical structures or scientifically established physiological effects.

Please note: This summary is a concise interpretation of the original article; please refer to the source for the full context and details.

Meta-Analyses and Clinical Trials:

  • Multiple meta-analyses and systematic reviews have evaluated CXCTP for headache and migraine management. A meta-analysis of 37 articles (3,307 patients) showed that CXCTP significantly increased the total effectiveness rate compared to Western medicine alone, both as monotherapy and in combination with conventional drugs. It also significantly reduced headache intensity (VAS scores), frequency, and duration, with fewer adverse events than Western medicine.

  • Subgroup analyses found that formulas containing the herb pair Chuan Xiong plus Bai Zhi were especially effective in reducing migraine attack frequency at the end of treatment.

  • CXCTP was also associated with improvements in platelet function and blood rheology, including reductions in 5-HT and β-endorphin levels, as well as other pain and inflammation markers.
