Zang en Fu: De Yin en Yang Organen

Solid Keepers and Hollow Workers
The body is divided into two teams of organs: the Zang (Yin) and the Fu (Yang). They always work together in pairs.

Zang Organen (Yin)
These are the solid organs: Liver, Heart, Spleen, Lung, Kidney.

Function:They store and preserve vital substances (such as blood, energy, and essence). They must always be “full” of energy, but not clogged.

Fu Organen (Yang)
These are the hollow organs: Gallbladder, Small Intestine, Stomach, Large Intestine, Bladder.

Function:They are the workers. They receive food and drink, digest it, transport it, and excrete it. They must be “filled and emptied”; they must never remain permanently full (that is, constipation or retention).

The Couple
Each Yin organ has a Yang partner. For example: the Spleen (Yin) and the Stomach (Yang). The Stomach receives food (Fu function), while the Spleen extracts and stores energy (Zang function). If one is out of balance, the other suffers as well.
