The Distributor of Moisture and Fire
The San Jiao (Triple Warmer) is a unique organ in TCM because it doesn’t have a physical structure like the liver or stomach. It’s a functional system that divides the body into three “chambers” or “burners,” which work together to transport fluids and heat.
- The Upper Warmer (Mist):
- Area:Chest (Heart and Lungs).
- Function:Distributes fluids and energy as a fine mist throughout the body, to the skin and muscles. It provides hydration and protection.
- Area:Chest (Heart and Lungs).
- The Middle Warmer (Foaming Pot):
- Area:Upper abdomen (Spleen and Stomach).
- Function:This is where food and drink are “cooked” and transformed. It’s the central mixing chamber where energy is extracted from food.
- Area:Upper abdomen (Spleen and Stomach).
- The Bottom Warmer (Exhaust Channel):
- Area:Lower abdomen (kidneys, bladder, intestines).
- Function:Separates the pure from the impure and removes waste products.
- Area:Lower abdomen (kidneys, bladder, intestines).
Balance:Good health requires that the “waterways” between these three floors remain open. The San Jiao is the manager of these logistics.
