The Formula Boat
In TCM, Jie Geng is compared to a boat sailing upwards.
Function:It directs the action of other herbs to the upper part of the body: the Lungs and Throat.
Application:Without Jie Geng, some heavy herbs would sink directly to the lower abdomen. Adding Jie Geng “lifts” them so they can do their work in the chest or throat.
In addition, it has a supportive effect on the throat and helps maintain a clear voice. It is essential in respiratory formulas.
