Hun and Po: The Spiritual Aspects

The Etheric and the Bodily Soul
In addition to the Shen (Spirit), TCM recognizes other aspects of our consciousness, including the Hun and the Po.

The Hun (Etheric Soul)

House:The Liver.

Character:The Hun is Yang and airy. It is responsible for our dreams, vision, creativity, planning, and out-of-the-box thinking. It gives direction to our lives. If the Liver Blood is weak, the Hun can wander at night, leading to busy, tiring dreams.

The Po (Body Soul)

House:The Lungs.

Character:The Po is Yin and earthy. It is connected to our physical existence, our instincts, breathing, and bodily sensations. It is the soul that remains with the body and ensures our physical integrity and boundaries.

Balance:
A healthy person has a strong Po (feeling good about themselves) and a free Hun (inspiration and dreams).
